How do i get sound back on my Windows XP computer?

Question

My mum decided that she would wipe all of the programs off the computer and she some how deleted the sound device. Now every time i go to play some thing it a message pops up saying it cant and we don't no where the CD is to reload it. Can i download it off the inter net.
