How do i get the chain back on the rear wheel of my mountain bike?

i had to take off my rear when to fix a flat and now i can't get the chain or derailer to work properly. i have never done this before so i'm little lost.

You'll see a small gear near the back wheel making a via point for the chain if you lift the gear up it will give you slack
