How do i get a curtain pole up when the other side of the ceiling is hollow (its a bay window). I've tried with screws before but theres nothing for them to grip onto. I cant attach it to thewall as theres not enough space (and i want it on the ceiling) any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

  1. you'll need "anchors".  There are several kinds to choose from.  I'd suggest checking with the fine folks at Home Depot or other such store and asking which will be the best for your situation.

  2. You'll need rawl plugs. You can get plaster rawl plugs from most diy shops. They expand wider then normal rawl plugs. So give better grip.

  3. hollow wall fixings, you can buy them from almost any diy store, they open up inside the cavity. but they will only take so much weight, opt for lighter weight curtains.

  4. Best to put a wooden batton up first. Then attach the pole fixings through the batton.

You only need a thin piece - say 25mm x 6mm, around the width of the bay.

You can s***w this up using rawl plugs every 300mm or so, plus also use something like no-more-nails as well all the way along (the no-more-nails will provide the majority of the strength).

When you attach the pole fixings afterwards, you can still use more rawl plugs again, these will sit half in the wood and half in the plaster behind.

    Much stronger by far.
