  1. go to the vet and they can tell you what kind of species, and whether to remove it or not.

  2. I'd try a baby or extra soft toothbrush.

  3. you'll need to keep him out of water for several hours, because turtles can't live in salt water....   But pour some salt on top of the 'moss'  (which is most likely a fungus) and leave it there 5+ hours.  Salt kills all kinds of plants, and should work for moss OR fungus.  After the 5 hours is up, rinse the turtle off under come lukewarm water in the sink, then put him back in his aquarium.  It should do the trick.  Do this once a day for about three days and your problem should be solved.

  4. If it's green, it is probably algae and will neither damage the turtle nor interfere with your identification. If you want to remove it, you can brush it off with either an old toothbrush, a vegetable brush, or a nail brush, depending on the turtle's size. A few crystals of copper sulfate in the water will kill the algae, if you want to do so.

Even with the algae, the turtle should be easy to ID if you can provide a picture. I'm assuming that you caught it. Compare it to the pictures, descriptions, and range maps in a field guide.

  5. Warm water and a toothbrush

  6. Are you ure it's moss and not a kind of fungus?!
