How do i get the most time out a DVD, recording it on a TV to DVD recorder?

if the question doesn't make sense, i'm not sure how to ask it but, what mode do i put my recorder (i.e. XP, SP, LP, MP) into to get the most time out of it. I don't care about quality, i just want to get the most time out of a DVD. also they are Maxell DVD-R and Sony DVD-R. I know SP=2 hours, but how do i get 6 or 8 hours?

Just hit the botton of ur remote control that says RecMode or smth of the sort and every time u hit it, it will be displayed in the tv the Recording Mode and how much time u will have left to record. In my LG recorder LP is for 1 hr aprox and HQ for 6 hrs :-D Give it a try!
