How do i get the speedo cable out of the speedo drive unit on a 86 soft tail

Take the odometer set button off. Right at the end of the seat, on the gas tank, there is a button head nut, remove it. Now you can remove the center consol of the tank. Loosen the speedo bolts and lift it up enough to unthread the cable. Remove the front wheel and unhook the cable there. Hope that helps.
