  1. Most common place is with an editing tool (online, or photoshop)

I have a Canon SD1000 and I can use a feature called Color Accent where you just select the color you want to use and it will make everything else black and white.

  2. Your best bet is to use photoshop.  And there are a few ways to accomplish this.

    The easiest is to ---

    1. Use a selection tool, like the magnetic lasso, and trace around the object or objects that you want to keep in color.  Then go to SELECT>Inverse.  This will make your marching ants select everything except the object that you want in color.

Then go to Image>Mode> Grayscale.  This will turn it B&W, but you may need to tweak the contrast to make the blacks blacker and the whites whiter.

    Voi La!

OR you can go straight to Image>Mode> Grayscale, and turn the whole image B&W, tweak it again.  Then go and select the paint brush tool. And select a color you want out of the swatches.  Also you will need to lower the opacity so the color of the object will not be too harsh or dark.

    Thanks for reading!

  3. Go to picnik you don't have to make an account

    http://www.picnik.com/app#/home/welcome

just click on upload photo ^ (demo version)

its defiantly free and my favorite website

  4. You don't need to have a special camera, what I do is the I go to google and put " edit picture" and it gives me a lot of websites that you can use to edit your pictures, you can put special effects, black and white and even text... just search the web and I'm sure you are going to find something ... good luck

  5. You can do it with most good editing programs (Photoshop CS3, Photoshop Elements, Gimp [free]) and to a limited degree with Picasa (also free).

Essentially you select what you want to leave in color, invert the selection convert the new selection to black-and-white, deselect, and you're done.  Picasa does a "focal b&w" where you can move a circle around that remains in color.  So it's really more "focal color," but they didn't ask me.
