  1. Dishwasher?? Metal scourer will do it but it leaves scratches. The chromium plating has gone on them.

  2. i think white vinager works best

  3. Well.., juz' get a new one...

  4. Leave in cokecola. It contains phosphoric acid - the same acid used to pickle steel industrially - of course it dissolves your teeth!

It will convert the iron oxide FE203 to Iron Phosphate FePO4 - which is dark grey - and is a stable coating.

Used for de-rusting on vehicles prior to paint.

Another method is to boil Rhubarb leaves - and leave your rusted items in there.  This will de-rust by Chleatation. Another similar result is from molasses. This is where the chemicals are actively seeking Oxygen - so will rob the oxygen from your rust - leaving just the Iron behind.  Rhubarb leaves contain Oxalic acid - unfortunately a poisonous organic acid - but great at removing rust stains on fabrics too.

  5. nine times outa ten you dont.its the metal that rusts and starts to flake.lemon juice  etc will only bleach the colour, doesnt actually get rid of the rust

  6. At home I must use only biodegradable detergents, because of the septic tank which works on bacterial bio-degradation (by the way, when I put it to work I had to flush in a few gallons of yogurt :-). So I cannot use stuff like cillit bang. I purchased citric acid and  I clean not only the knives with it, but also the sink, all metal & ceramic items in my bathroom and kitchen. It really works. Lemon & vinegar are good choices, too, but sometimes I can't stand the smell of vinegar and sometimes I forgot to buy lemons.

  7. Brillo pad

  8. If your knives are "rusty" they are finished. Buy the best quality stainless steel ones you can afford, look after them - wash, dry and sharpen - and they will last a long time

  9. Speaking as a Chef of 30 + years experience, whose fave knives of all time are the old Sabatiers which were v prone to 'rust' / wear, what you do is two things,

Firstly, do NOT put your knives in the dishwasher - only use light detergent in a sink to clean them, also try not, where possible,  to use scouring cloths of any kind.

Secondly, dry with a clean cloth and then rub down with a piece of kitchen roll that has a tiny bit of Olive or Vegetable Oil on it.

follow these instructions and you knives will last and stay sharper, longer .

  10. Get some very fine wire wool from your hardware shop - or better still scrounge a bit from a builder or painter!

  11. CILIT BANG...BANG and the dirt is gone!

  12. A light touch with a Brillo pad or a small dose of Barkeepers Friend cleanser will take care of the issue.  My dishwasher does the same thing to my knives....

  13. Soak them in lemon juice over night. This should do the trick. If the lemon juice doesnt work try vinegar.
