  1. www.tamilnadutourism.com

  2. Situated about 24 km. from Chidambaram, Vaitheeswaran Koil can be reached by all modes of transport. It is on the Chennai - Mayavarm railway line. The nearest airport is in Trichy. There are a number of buses plying from Kumbakonam, Trichy and Chidambaram.

From Chennai side, take Rockfort Express and get down at Kumbakonam which is 55 kms from Vaitheeswaran Koil

    regarding naadi

Each Nadi in Tamil Nadu is made up of ola or palm leaf, written in Vatta ezhuthu, a Tamil script, with a sharp, pen like instrument called ezhuthani. Rubbing peacock oil on auspicious occasions preserves the palm leaves. Peacock is also the vehicle for Murughun (Mars). So the subtle hint is that the great Lord Murughun helps preserve and protect this ancient knowledge. This is why there are so many Nadi readers outside one of Mars’s main places of power in Vaitheeswaran Koil.

There are other centre of Nadis. In Hoshiarpur, Punjab, a family og Bhrigu nadi readers are found.

Vaitheeswaran Koil, the Primary Centre for Nadi

There are many centres of Nadi in India. The main one remains in Vaitheeswaran Koil in Tamil Nadu. Due to the patronage of the Chola kings, Nadi Granthas were translated and kept in the library at Thanjavur, which is near Vaitheeswaran Koil. When the British sold them, most of these came to be in Vaitheeswaran Koil, where the Pullirukkuvelur Temple is dedicated to the healing powers of Shiva. Unlike most other temples that are known by the presiding deity, Lord Murughan is a celebrated deity in Vaitheeswaran Koil. Murughan is the son of Shiva, therefore comes from the same lineage.

The Nadi Jyotisha flourishes under the protection of Shiva and Murughan. They ply their traditional trade interpreting the knowledge of the Nadis and also telling of the upayes or remedies for the past karma. One should go for a Nadi reading with devotion. If you are skeptical about them, it is likely to bring you face to face with the wrong interpreter.

The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, who is worshipped as Vaitheeswaran or Vaidhyanadha Swamy. His Consort is known as Thaiyal Nayaki. Unlike most other temples that are known by the presiding deity, Lord Muruga is a celebrated deity in Vaitheeswaran Koil. Though the name Vaidhyanadhan is associated with Lord Shiva, poet Arunagiri-nadhar prefers to call Muruga by that name in one of his verses, known for the beauty of their rhythm. 'varathurai nIdharkku oru sEyE, vayiththiya naadhap perumaaLE,' is how he addresses Lord Subramanya in Thiruppugazh (urath thurai bOdhath thaniyaana).

  3. There are many buses from MBT Koyambedu to Mayavaram (Maiyiladurai) and you can get in. Take a late evening bus and you will reach in the early morning or even you can go in day time.

Vaitheswarankoil is the birth place of Naadi Joditam and there are lot of Naadi centres, but it is difficult to recommend any as lot of fake Naadi astrologers with fake "Suvadi" have come up and you can take a chance as it will not cost more than Rs.100/= per person. If you are luck you may get the correct naadi. Best of luck-

  4. You can go by Bus, Car, Train from Chennai,

You can take the route from Channai to Mayiladuthurai and descend at Vaitheeswaran Koil famous for Temple (famous and Naadi Jyosyam (beware of fake), it is a question of Luck, you can make out yourself with true of false with the way they approach. I would sugegst you get hold of one of the Gurukkul ( Temple priest) and get to know who is better.

    God Bless you.
