  1. For travel in the UK you can use this site:

    http://www.transportdirect.info/Web2/Hom...

It can do it door to door for you, including bus or walk to the station or stop.

As I am not really familiar with Milton Keynes, (having been there about twice) I can not really help you.

Best enter your home address and as much as you have for an address for the council offices.

If I entered the right info, (not being British I am not sure I picked the right choices,) it will take about 5 hours and will have about 4 changes.

There might be easier ways too, but this was a quick check.

I hope this info is still in time for you.

  2. From Milton Keynes take a train to Euston, then a Circle or Hammmersmith & City underground service to Paddington.

At Paddington take a train to Bristol Temple Meads, they run every half hour and take an hour and forty minutes to get there. At Temple Meads catch a number 8 or 9 bus to the bus station, a six or seven minute journey, depending on traffic.

At the bus station catch a number 309 or 310 bus to Thornbury, the ultimate destination for the bus may be Dursley, a little further on than Thornbury.

The 309/310 runs approximately half hourly and takes forty minutes to get to Thornbury.

  3. Andy M has given you most of the answer. The missing bit is how you get from Bristol Temple Meads railway station to the bus for Thornbury.

At Temple Meads you must find a local service to the Bus Station. It's about a 5 minute bus ride or a 20 minute walk if you know your way, hours if you get lost. There are always taxis and it shouldn't be an expensive trip.

You can get a bus from the bus station directly to Thornbury, it takes about 55 minutes because there are loads of stops on the way. The busses are about every half hour intervals.

Thornbury itself is not a big town so you won't have any problem finding Castle street and the Council.

Alternatively, at Temple Meads you can check to see if there is a convenient rail connection to Yate. This town is nearer to Thornbury than Bristol and you may be able to catch a bus between the two. Before you take that option please check the timetables. It would be shame if you just missed one and the next was 3 hours later.

  4. Unfortunatley there is no rail service to Thornbury, the closest areas you can get to is Bristol Temple Meads as already mentioned.

Get in contact with the office and see if they have a suggestion or service to get to the offices from there, especially if you explain the situation

  5. I have to admit I'd never heard of Thornbury before now. I have, however, located it on a road atlas. There appears to be no railway station for miles. I think your best bet is to telephome South Gloucs Council and ask them to give you directions. It looks to me as if you will have to travel Milton Keynes - Euston, tube to Paddington, then train Paddington to Bristol and bus.

  6. Call he train and bus stations. They will have someone who will be able to help you.

  7. Yahoo Maps !
