  1. the D and Q don't go to Queens, so if you are starting from there, you're in trouble.

there is a website called www.hopstop.com that will give you subway or subway/bus directions anywhere in NYC.

  2. The ferry to the Statue of Liberty (which also stops at Ellis Island) leaves from the bottom of Manhattan, not far from the Staten Island ferry.  You don't say where in Queens you are starting, which makes a big difference.  From Flushing or anywhere along the #7 IRT I would go to the last stop (W42 St) and get on the #1 to the last stop, from which it is a short walk to the Statue ferry.

From the D/Q subways, you could connect to the 4.5. or 6, but it is a noticeably longer walk.

  3. The 4 or 5 train to Bowling Green gets you the closest to Castle Clinton, where you buy tickets for the Statue of Liberty ferry.

If are near a subway line in Queens, it's easy to get downtown.  On the 7 train, transfer at Grand Central Station for a downtown 4 or 5.

From the N/W/R, transfer at 59th Street in Manhattan to a downtown 4 or 5.

From the E/V, I'd probably transfer at 53rd Street/Lexington Ave to a downtown 6 train and then take that one stop to Grand Central and transfer to the downtown 4 or 5 (the trains stop on opposite sides of the same platform so you just walk across; very easy)

If I was on the F, I'd just transfer to the E at Roosevelt 74th and follow the instructions for the E above.

There are different ways you could do it, but my focus was on getting there quickly.  The 1 train to South Ferry runs local in Manhattan and it takes a long time to get downtown.

  4. Which neighborhood of Queens.

If you're coming from Breezy Point/Roxbury, you have to bike or car it to nearest subway station at Brookyln College subway station in Brooklyn or Rockaway Park station.

If you're in Rockaways near Rockaway Park Shuttle, take Shuttle to Broad Channel for Manhattan-bound (A) to Fulton St, then take downtown 4/5 to Bowling Green. S serves Rockaway Park to Broad Channel while regular (A) serves Far Rockaway to 80th St.

You're in near M stations from Metropolitan Av to Seneca Av, you have to take M. During weekends, evenings, transfer require at Myrtle Av-Broadway for J. Midday, transfer to J/Z at Myrtle Av or last stop, Chambers St. Rush Hour M, and other J/Z take you to Broad St, few walking distance to Battery Park.

If you're near J/Z line, you have to take that to Broad St.

If you're near (F) line, take that to Lex Av/63rd St, MetroCard transfer to downtown 4/5 at 59th St/Lex Av to Bowling Green.

If you're near (R) line, get off at Whitehall St.

If you're near (E) or (V) line, take to Lex Av/53rd St for downtown 4/5 to Bowling Green or (R) to Lex Av/59th St for same train.

If you're mostly served by neighborhood that not by subway, you have to take local bus to connect to subway or express bus to Lower Manhattan.

Please tell us which neighborhoods, so we can assist you easily.

  5. What part of Queens are you in? Queens is are very large borough with many subway lines serving it.
