That is my planter and it looked great until crab grass and weeds started growing in it. I had strawberries as ground cover close to the path but it was partially taken out to kill the weeds.

Is there any way to kill the unwanted weeds and crab grass and leave my larger plants so i don't have to rip up the planter and start over?

  1. wet it down real good.... let the water sink in.... get an old pillow for your knees.... get down on your knees, reach in and grab one of the weeds near the ground, pull with enuff force to make it come OUT of the ground , hopefully intact..... shake off the soil back where you pulled it out..... pull ALL the weeds out this way.... when it's done, then get some landscape fabric and lay it where there's no plants and cover that  with a layer mulch, a good layer about three inches thick... cypress or cedar or hardwood  will do..... no poisons necessary... just a cloudy afternoon or morning's real labor... a little 'sweat of the brow'..........then, once it's looking good, don't just walk by it... stop and look it over every now and then,  to see if any new weeds have snuck in... pull any that do, right then, and it won't ever get all outtawhack again... pulling one is a lot easier than doing the whole bed....
