  1. I agree with many of the answers already given.  My recipe is a 50/50 mixture of 91% Isopropyl Alcohol and White Vinegar.  The alcohol is to dry out the water in the ear, the vinegar is to restore the acidity within the ear to help maintain the proper PH level so bad bacteria cannot grow.

Like many people/sites have said, use only a little of this solution at a time (5-10 drops) and keep it in your clogged ear for at least 5 minutes to maximize the benefit.

    Hope this helps!

  2. You could try "Doc's Pro earplugs" I have been told they work well. I personally use a little olive oil BEFORE going in the water, ask any ENT and they will tell you olive oil is not an outer ear irritant.

Check out these two links, as DAN has studied the issue extensively.

  3. when i was on the swim team we put alcohol in our ears, that seemed to work

  4. You need to see a doctor. Water "trapped" in your ear usually leads to an ear infection within a couple of days.

When the infection has cleared up (thanks to the anti-biotics your doctor prescribed) ask him to "syringe your ears". This can be uncomfortable but clears your ears of wax. This should prevent the problem recurring

  5. Rubbing alchol is what we use after diving. Dip a Q-Tip into rubbing alchol and gently insert in ear, you will feel the alchol absorb the water and your ear will clear.  Don't insert the Q-Tip too far :-)

  6. oh i no i go wind-surfing a lot and what i do is tip my head to 1 side, hit my head just above the ear that the waters is in realy hard with the bass of my pam. i how it works if not just jump up and down and slam ur feet rely hard on the grownd it should work

  7. do a mixture, 1/3 rubbing alcohol, 1/3 baby oil, and 1/3 white vinegar, it should dry it out, but put very little in!

  8. If the pain was immediat after you dove in or went down deep without 'clearing' your ears you may even have ruptured your ear drum (sounds bad but it heals quick and no swimming at all till it does).

If it hurts and it has been a couple days since you went in the water than probably just infected. Follow the advice of the other answers if all you need is to get the water out.

Either way It is likely infected and a trip to the ER is in order or your Doc ASAP!. They will take a quick look and let ya know...

  9. I had water blocking my ear once and someone told me to just lean my head to one side and tap the other side of my head and the water should come out you could try that. If you live in the UK you could call NHS advise line on 0845 4647.

  10. don't laugh --the doctor told my husband to do this to prevent swimmer's ear...just put a coupld of drops of white vinegar in your ear.  i don't know how it works but it does.

  11. Dip a cotton bud into a little rubbing alcohol and gently...GENTLY wipe your ear out with it.  You could also try putting a few drops of olive oil into your ears before entering the water.
