Not the entire amount but only a certain amount. Do i have to send them the money in a separate transaction?

There must be a way to do it within the same transaction

  1. Find the transaction in your PayPal history.  View the details of the transaction.

In the transaction details, way down the page, you'll find a refund link.  It will ask you if you want to refund all or part of the payment.

When you submit the refund, any PayPal fees for receiving that payment get refunded back to you too.

  2. I am 99% sure you have to do it a seperate transaction.  I have doen this in the past and it has worked fine.

  3. The Issue Refund link allows you to issue a full or partial refund for up to 60 days after the original payment was sent.

    To send a Refund:

1.Log in to your PayPal account at https://www.paypal.com/.

2.Click "History" at the top of the page.

3.Find the payment you would like to refund and click "Details."

    4.Click the "Issue Refund" link.

5.Enter the refund amount and click "Continue."

6.Confirm the refund details and click "Issue Refund."

    Note:

-The PayPal account balance is only used if it is sufficient enough to send the total amount of the refund. If there are insufficient funds, the full amount of the refund will be requested from your bank account.

-After 60 days, you can use Send Money to refund money.

-The PayPal account balance will always be used first on the Send Money payment flow. The remainder will come out of your bank account. Once the refund has been completed, it will post as a separate transaction and can be viewed in the recent activity or in the History transaction log.

-There is no charge to send a refund using the Issue Refund link. A partial refund cannot be issued on a transaction involving the use of a coupon.

-The refund link will not appear if there is not a sufficient balance to cover the refund and there is no confirmed bank account on file.

-A partial refund cannot be issued on a transaction involving the use of a coupon or gift certificate.

-The fees refunded will depend on the amount of the refund.

-The percentage of fees refunded will match the percentage of the original transaction refunded.
