im looking to get a job for 6 months starting from november while my husband is in iraq. i worked with horses before and am desperate to do something similar. i would need to live-in but the wage need not be particularly high as i'd only be there 6 months. anyone got any ideas how or where i could find out about any options for this?? where could i "advertise" myself (apart from horse and hound!!!)?? or where could i visit to get an idea of yards which might be interested in 6 mpnths cheap, experienced labour?!

  1. look on www.yardandgroom.com

  2. If your talking about working in a barn, than you could go to a barn not far from you house and see if they will take you, let me tell you, barns never have enough help.  You could work cleaning out stalls, feeding, turning out.  If you wanted, you could see if you could work for a trainer, they never have enough help either.  You coud groom, tack, feed clean for them and even go to shows to help there!  Make sure you tell them that you can only work there for a limited time, so they arn't surprise when you give them their two week noticed and they are aware they might need to get some more permanate help.  Just call or go to the barn and ask, they will most likly take you.  Good luck!

  3. Getting a job for just 6 months could be tough.  I was trying to find a summer job before and many places are reluctant to train just to have you quit in a few months.  If you're experienced though, they may be more willing.  Why not check out places that deal with horses, go to their ranch/yard and talk to the owner and see if they will hire you.  Or start calling up places and asking if they need the help.  I think your best bet is to contact owners personally and talk to them.  Putting an ad out in the paper is too impersonal for such a personal job (you'd be living with them, they want to make sure you're not a crazy).

Or, check out craigslist or post an ad on there.

  4. http://www.tacktrader.com sign up for an account and you can advertise for free. you can do the same at http://www.webpony.com , what area do you live in, I know that the equine marketer runs for Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virgina, New York, New Jersey, for them go to http://www.equinemarketer.com you have to pay to be their member though, also your local penny saver type thing should have a horses section and a help for hire section that you can advertise in. in Northeastern Pennsylvania it's at http://www.thepapershop.com

I hope that I helped answer your question Good Luck (:

  5. go and ask at your local stud farm or stables

  6. www.yardandgroom.com (i use these)

www.careergrooms.com (not so good but ok)

www.nagsandnannies.com (have only just registered with these so don't know how good they are)

    YardAndGroom is the best :-D

Good luck :-) I would try a hunting yard as they are busy over winter. But just place an ad!

  7. Easy. You don't tell them you are only going to stay 6 months, you take a permanent job and then quit. If you were permanent and were offered a better job you would leave, what's the difference? Horse and HOund is best, or one of the equine job agencies, they don't charge.
