Hi there, There’s a 0191 ******* number i want, how do i go about getting it?

When i call it, it doest ring, so its not active.

Telewest once said that they use to have it so it probably be still in there system so bt could port it back.

BT eventually said they could get me it, so i went ahead with the account and new line, but when the line was active it wasn’t the number i was after. 3 separate occasions they gave me a date of when the number would be connected, but still no joy.

Now i ve contacted telewest again to see if i could start a service with them if they could get me the number, and now there saying that they don’t know anything about this number and if i started a new line there’s no guarantees i will get this number.

Please can someone help, i ve already spent loads on marketing materials with this number included, as BT gave me no doubt in my mind that this number would be mine. Thanks

  1. Usually they do not allocate numbers that are meant for another part of a city to a different area of a city or town.

Cannot see them changing there system for one BT user.

  2. moveme.com they will help for free.

  3. This is not always possible, this is down to where you live and which exchange you are fed from. Sorry to say this but BT and most other phone companies will not guarantee a number until it has been installed, as occasionally a small area could be fed from more than one exchange. All telephone numbers once they have been ceased have to go into a pot and the next telecoms company will get it, this is not to be awkward, it is so that no one can have a monopoly on the local numbers, this was part of de regulation supervised by OFTEL now OFCOM. The only chance you have of getting the number you would like is to call BT sales on 150, ask for a re number and see if it is possible ( this may cost as BT may have to purchase the number for you ), Good Luck.

  4. i have really bad experience with bt! i would never recommend bt to anyone!!!

  5. I am so sorry for what they did to you. I worked for att for 4 years on small business accounts and we always advised our customers not to print anything until the number is working in your business because anything can come up you can go to smartpages.com and put the number in and they should be able to tell you who the carrier is. Also my suggestion would be to go with a 800 number with the 7 digits your looking for. oh yea and one more thing call all the phone companies in your area and tell them you want a pzn which is a personalized phone number they should be able to tell you off top if its available and if they sell other products pretend to be interested in everything because most communication companies are sales and commission driven and they will try there best to get the sale. never let a company tell you they can port a number from another carrier because the only way to port a number is if you have it active and working with another carrier. I hope this helps
