  1. You can grow lettuce & radishes from seed in containers or in the ground.  Tomatoes can be grown in white plastic buckets: grape or cherry tomotoes, romas, or big boys can be grown this way or in the ground. Cucumbers do best in a garden.  We just water them & we don't have any pest problems...except rabbits.  That is why we put the lettuce in containers this year. We also grow green beans from seed.  Herbs are easy to grow too.  I did dill from seed & I bought basil & cilantro plants. I have been cutting off fresh herbs all summer.

  2. I have found that it depends on what you want to plant. For example lavender is a herb that is hard to start from seed. However lettuce starts pretty easy.

Some seeds need to reach an 80 degree temp before they will sprout. And they also need the right humidity, or they sprout only to dry up.

If you are a beginner you may want to start out buying actual plants. Do some research for what vegetable or fruit you want to grow. What grows best in full sun and what does better in part shade.

Keep in mind that mints are like a ground cover that spreads drowning out other plants. So if you grow them in a limited space, you may want to keep them in pot's.

You also have to consider what type of dirt and Kliment you have. What growing zone you are in, and what time of year to plant what out side. Check with your local cooperative extension for further growing information for what grows best in your area and in what type of soil.

  3. vegetables and stuff like that would be better if your growing your own food, instead of herbs, unless you want to grow your own seasoning and tea too.

carrots, leaf lettuce, corn and plants like them should be planted from seed- i don't think you can get them any other way-

others like cucumbers, pumpkins, and zuccini should be from a nursery, but you still can plant them from seed.

proper watering and fertilizing techniques should help to grow delicious food.

if you have a fence around your garden or if they are inside, that should keep many pests away -like rabbits- but for the bugs you should use a pesticide.
