  1. As far as registering your company is concerned, yes you need to register it through Companies House.  However, if you register online through an agent, you'll find it A LOT easier than doing the paperwork that Companies House asks for.  You would ordinarily also have to  get a solicitor to witness your signature on one of the forms.

Online company formations have really taken off because of their simplicity.  I have registered a number of companies on behalf of clients and friends through Companies Made Simple, www.companiesmadesimple.com.  They rather convenient and pretty cheap. Their registration packages start at £25.

They are also part of The Made Simple Group which is all about services for business start ups, so you may well find lots of helpful information on their sites.

    Good Luck!

  2. Are you in the UK?  If you want to register a company name and make sure no one else is using it, you need to form a limited company through Companies House.

When you set up the business you need to inform Inland Revenue within 3 months of starting.

If you're in the UK, your best source of help would be your local Business Link.  They provide free seminars on starting in business that take you through everything that's involved.

    Good luck!
