  1. Yeah!  Your in luck. Kansas is one of the states that allows adoptees to have a copy of their original birth certificate.  Siblings can sign an "authorization to release information" form 7005, found at the website listed below. There's also a form for birth parents to request contact with an adult adoptee.

    http://www.srskansas.org/CFS/Program%20D...

    "Adoption Records/Search

SRS conducts adoption searches for adoptees and birth parents for private and SRS adoptions that were finalized in the State of Kansas. The adoptee must be 18 years of age or older before a search can be requested. Searches for birth siblings are only conducted if the adoptee and birth siblings had an established relationship prior to being adopted and birth sibling is currently 18 years old or older. Searches are not conducted for extended family members such as grandparents, aunts, etc; however, extended family members may send SRS a letter to be placed in the adoptee's file. Available forms (at the web site listed)."

Try looking for the birth in the state's birth index. Was he born in Kansas?  If so, here's a link

If not, locate the birth index for the state you believe he was born in (google search, find the STATE'S website). Vital statistics.

Also, see the International Soundex Reunion Registry,

Contact me for more ideas. I'll need a few more details.

    Good luck!

ETA: You don't need to hire a private investigator.  It took me 3 months from the day I sent my first letter to my first phone call. I did my search on my own with the help of a support group and a book called "The Adoption Searchbook". That was in 1983 - before the internet!  (Believe it or not...LOL)

I have LOTS of ideas & info. So do others in this forum.

  2. Do you know city or state of birth?  Sometimes there are adoption websites for families of closed adoptions to try and hook up at.  You can also try Craigslist and posting an ad if you know the city and state.  You never, he may be searching for his family as well and you might find something.

    Good luck!

  3. I would start with family first.  I bet a few of them would have great details. If you think that they still may not want to talk about it then ask about the period you think he was born.. Like places the family lived etc. Go to adopation websites, look for suggestions.

my friend's BIL found his mom on a website that you can register to find family

  4. easy go to the adoption center your brother was adopted from and tell them exactly what your looking for.

  5. My husband is trying to do the same thing in the same era.

Try to talk to as many people in your family that knew about it any info might help. Contact the adoption agency.

  6. Hire a private investigator.  It might cost money but they have resources.
