How do i go to America for a year as a placement year?

I am a 20yr old female english student studying accounting at northumbria university. Im currently in my first year and I wish to go on placement and work for a company in America in my 3rd year. Can someone tell me how i go about looking for companies to sponsor me and take me on whilst on placement? how do i find this? and then when i do find a placement what do i need to do? thanks =D

If your Uni allows student exchanges or placements as part of the course then there should be someone at the Uni co-ordinating all this & they'll probably start preparing you in the term before the exchange happens.  You should find out who the co-ordinator is & make contact with them, if they don't arrange employment abroad but there are students still attending who've done something similar, the co-ordinator may be able to place you in contact with them.  

    If you were living in London, I would suggest trying to find employment over the summer break at an American firm based in London & see if their parent companies offer internships.
