If you have new computer, it may have Excel 2007 installed instead. When working on computational assignments, you will need to be careful to save your file in Excel 2003 format. Otherwise, you may not be able to submit your file.

This is what it says in my course outline for my mgtsc312 course...i have excel 2007 on my computer but to put it in excel 2003 what do i do? If i finish the assigment on my comp at home i would have to send it to my email then open it up on the computers at school and it will covert to 2003?

  1. If you have Office 2007 installed in your machine. you can save your files in 2003 format by default. you don't need to do save as in 2003 format every time.

just open Excel > click the office button on the upper left corner > click Excel option > select save > on the right side of that dialog box select Excel 97-2003 workbook from the drop down list beside save file in this format:

if you send your files in 2007 format (*.docx) they can't be open by Excel 2003 (*.doc). you have to save your assignment in Excel 2003 format then send them.

  2. Install this in to all computers which have office 2003

this will solve your problem easily

  3. When creating a workbook in Excel 2007 you have the option to 'Save As' an Excel 97-2003 Workbook with a .xls extension.  That way, any computer with Excel will open the file with no issues.

  4. Save the excel file in 2003 file format, option is available in Save As... dialog box.

  5. What you will need to do is when you are about to save the file choose "Save As" and then at the bottom of the save box, there will be a "save as type" drop down list. From the list choose the version that you would like to save it as.

If you save it as the 2007 version, anything with 2003 will be unable to open it without having a "compatibility patch" installed. I would recommend making sure that the steps above are followed to ensure that anyone with 2003 can open it.

  6. what everyone above said is correct.

but you can also set excel to use the 2003 format as the "default" file type so you don't have to remember to change it everytime.

go to the office button/icon (top/right corner).  You'll see an option there called "excel options" (bottom/right corner of the window).  I don't remember exactly under which option it is but there is an option to always save in 2003 format.
