  1. Install a proper ground wire to the power panel, hook the fixture correctly and you should be ok. The case on a metal light fixture should not have the line side wire touching it.  Do not use a water pipe as a ground electrode.  It may kill someone.

  2. The right way would be run a new wire to the electrical box.

The short cut is to run a wire from a cold water supply pipe to the green wire. They sell straps that wrap the cold water pipe and have a s***w on them to connect the wire to.

  3. Make sure you did not reverse the wires at the switch.

You need to either run a new wire with ground to the bathroom or run just a ground wire from the mirror to a metal cold water supply line.

If all your wiring is the older 2 wire, style at some point you may consider upgrading your wiring.

You can have an electrician rewire your house either with a flat rate contract or a by the hour.

The flat rate means he has to provide everything for the job,do the labor and it won't cost you more.

If you go by the hour, they can charge you for the time they run off for parts and stuff ( you could get a time clock and have them clock in and out.
