Now im trying to get my hamster to go on my hand without using the glove or cup technique.

But everytime I lay my hand close to him to get on,

HE BITES ME!

then his teeth would sometime penetrate my skin and i would start bleeding

but it doesnt really hurt.

Please help! & Thank You for your anwsers!

  1. My dwarf hamsters don't bite.

Do you wash your hands before you handle them. If not do so, they are very curius animals and will bite if they smell something on your hand.

  2. i had some of those. before they ate each other. cute little devils aren't they?

I never used a glove, they never bit, one would spit its food into my hand sometimes though, you just cant ask like your afraid to pick them up, they can smell fear. And flesh....

  3. I raised 19 of these little guys al at ones. I loved them. I had one who was born a runt. She was naturally mean. I couldn't hold her.

How are you picking them up. If you pick them up like a claw with your hand. They'll bite. Its normal. They get scared. Put your hand FLAT on the tank. And let it walk on you hand on its own. Have a treat ready for you hamster. Dont put it on your had or anything. Just leave it be.

For some of mine, I would pick them you with my hand like a cup. Palming them in my hand and turning them over in my hand them letting them get up while I hold them.

Its kinda like in you get your comp. mouse . Place your hand around it. DON'T OPEN UP FOR FINGERS palm it. Then pick it up and turn it over.

Aw. You made me miss mine. I think Ill get another one. lol.

  4. My hamster did this the first 2 days i had him... Let him come to you; put your hand in the cage and let it smell your hand and get used to it... Do you wash your hands really well before handling him? if he smells food he will bite... Once i had popcorn and didn't wash my hands and he licked my finger then tryed to take a big bit but i was quick enough to pull my hand away lol... By the way, you make it seem like he's an object... calling him "it" alot... lol

  5. I used to have the meanest dwarf hamsters, but it died from an eye infection.

But now I have gotten a new one, that is a few months old and it is the sweetest thing.

I learned that you have to play with it in it's cage (or outside of it's cage) and pet it, give it treats daily.

It will eventually get used to you and your scent and will start to trust you.

  6. I pick up my dwarf hamster just using my hand. Just put your thumb and fingers under either side of it and pick it up. But dont squeeze it, just hold it. Once its out of the cage just place it on the palm of your other hand
