I have heard that you can keep leopard geckos in large plastic containers. How do you heat them? I am wondering because i might get a gecko. Also can you keep a male and female together without mating?

  1. I would not get a plastic tank. Do not use one. just get a glass 10 gallon or better. they are pretty cheap. and no they will mate.

  2. Yes - Um, rubber maid tubs breeders use. Simply, use a UTH (heat mat), but on a low setting. say a temp for a leo is 30*c so put a UTH at 15*c and a Heat bulb at 15 too. Might work and stop the box from melting. I don't know as i use a aquarium. And for breeding - i'm not sure, if they are egg layers maybe you could freeze the eggs, like what you do with GALS eggs?.

  3. You can buy heat tape from your local pet store that sells reptile products. (if they sell it,) or you can even buy a heat pad and put it undernethe. Try putting it in a corner. If you do that you may want to leave sum of it on the outside, putting it in a corner (making a small square,) with exess heat pad that is not touching the bottom of the container. Once the male and female are grown, they may or may not mate. It's not guarenteed. There is a good possibility they will though.

  4. use a heat mat. and no its very rare for a male and female to not breed if put together. i would suggest just go with 1 male or if u really want 2 get 2 females

  5. dont ever use a plastic box because if you use a heat pad it could melt through and  burn your lizard 2 crisp .with a glass tank its much easier because you can use heat pads or light

  6. you use a lamp and no you cant keep a male and female together without mating

  7. I heat mine using a UTH (mini by zoo-med $20.00 at petco).

Shouldn't have any trouble housing them together. You actually have to set the conditions just right for them to mate. They're not like mammals that get busy at the first sign of life in a potential mate.

Just make sure you don't house two males together. They will fight and end up hurting or killing one another.
