How do i help my schizophrenic friend?

Her mum told me she has paranoid schizophrenia, i'm not entireally sure what this is. But i was sitting with her and her mum and she started to have "auditory hallucinations" like she was talking to someone that wasn't there.

We still talk and stuff, but it seems that some else is there with her. She talks to him/her whilst we're there, saying stuff like "do you agree with her?" i know i can't make this "person" go away. And i still love being her friend.

How can i just help her?

  1. She should be taken to a neurologist. That will be the help you can give to your friend. There are medicines to clear this disorder.

  2. Then be a friend.

\You can't eliminate the schizophrenia.  It's probably genetic, coming out of inherited DNA.  If her mother is positive about the diagnosis, she has probably seen a psychiatrist and might be on medication.

  3. Only a psychiatrist can help her. She should be on meds all the time. It is an incurable condition.

  4. Take a video of her talking to her "friend" and then show it to her immediately after. Do it in the spirit that you want to capture a moment for her, not that you are viciously trying to tear her world down. She might still accuse you of doctoring the video. Schizophrenics have a problem determining what is real and what is not. Like most people, they are self-centered and believe that everything they believe is absolute truth. They believe their delusions to the exclusion of all else, and over the years, build up complex delusional world views. Since people filter what they experience through their personal world views, they start to see what they expect to see, or want to see, locking themselves into a spiral of delusion.

The only way for a schizophrenic to find recovery is to discover the truth on their own, that they cannot have perfect knowledge of the universe, and must accept that others have a different view of things. You can start by acknowledging that your friend sees the world differently. Ask her what her friend thinks, and ask her why she believes in things. When she asks you if you agree with her friend, honestly tell her you can't see or hear the friend, and that she will need to explain to you what the friend is telling her. The friend probably represents some part of her own psyche that she hasn't come to terms with and integrated into herself. Perhaps by talking to you about her delusions, she can begin to see on her own what the problems with these delusions are.

  5. do not worry about medications..

unless u were to go to a nutreopath and see if she can be helped naturally.
