i can hit my irons straight as an arrow but when it comes to my driver i shank it left or right. i use to hit my driver awsome off the tee and i would struggle with my irons. but now that i have gotten better with my irons i tend to struggle with my driving off the tee. some mag i red said hit your driver like your seven iron and that helped somewhat. im looking for some tip than seems to tend me.. anyone have any short tips on how to hit the driver straight i would like to hear them. i can drive the ball 210 yards off the tee so its not my distance... i can actually hit my hybird off the tee and do way better but i cant hit the hybird as far as i would a driver. i wanna get the best out of my game.

  1. Well, first of all, don't hit it like your 7-iron!  The driver swing IS unfortunately completely different from all other clubs because it is so long, is meant to be hit on the upswing, and is so far forward in your stance.  Below is a video link that is decent at describing the swing as long as your fundamentals are already ok...  If you are spraying it everywhere, the first suspect would be your lower body.  Too much movement of your lower body in backswing or foreswing changes your swing path.  Go to the range and focus on keeping your knees in a fixed position (pivot, but don't rotate them) while rotating your body around them like a coiled spring.  Whereas some leg movement is ok and can help, too much makes for inconsistent contact.  Also, instead of a hybrid, use a 3-wood as a replacement on holes where you don't need the extra yardage the driver can give you.  The 3-wood swing is much easier than a driver and the distance is still very good.

  2. I like Jerry P's answer to point him out.  If your able to hit your irons straight then your not putting the same swing on the driver as you are your irons.  Now with that being said, you do not hit down on your driver like you do the 7iron.  I would recommend putting some tape on the top of your club and tee the ball up about 2-2 1/2 inchs off the ground.  This will require you to sweep the ball off the tee.  Also, if your hitting the dread left and right, you appear to be swaying (likely lower and upper body) off the ball and then casting the driver out when swaying back through.  Another good drill to work on is hits some balls with your feet together and then gradually move the apart (inch or two at at time) after hitting about 5-10 balls with each foot position.  This will allow you to fell your body and make it stay within the confines of  your feet.

  3. before starting your swing close your club head

  4. To hit your driver straight you must be sure that the clubface is square to the target line at impact.  That is how you do it.

  5. make sure the clubhead reaches the ball before you wrists do. also you can try to slow down your swing, the slower the swing the less chance of error you will have.

  6. just make sure you are not going inside out side or out side in side just come thought the ball straight and don't try to kill it

  7. It's pretty much impossible to hit a driver straight, so you have to play either (for right handed players) a fade (left to right) or a draw (right to left).

Actually 210 yards is not very good distance, probably because you are slicing or hooking it so much. You have to find a consistant draw or fade, but it's kind of hard to explain how to do that over the internet.

  8. First and only thing to do is make sure when you are swinging the club on the downswing, make sure you clear your left side and not sway your hip toward the target.

  9. Without seeing your swing, it's hard to answer what you might be doing wrong.

When I have trouble hitting the driver straight, sometimes it's because I'm not keeping my front arm straight.  I have to remind myself to keep my front arm straight.....not rigid, but straight.

The other problem I have at times is that my clubface is open at impact.  When that happens, I concentrate on making sure the back of my front hand is facing the target at impact.
