How do i hook up a basic stereo to a lcd tv?

its a sony stereo system that ive just recently got,tried today to hook it up but is very distorted when watching tv on it. otherwise it does fine.

Make sure you are using the stereo out jack on your tv into the input on the stereo.   After confirming that if you still have audio problems.  I would try a different cable.  Perhaps the cable is bad

Take a look at the back...do you have Monitor outputs?  Audio outputs?  

I'd use those outputs, to connect to your STEREO amp....

Then I'd connect my DVD and Cable boxes  DIRECTLY INTO the TV set, and I would attempt to connect them with

(In order of best signal)

HDMI

COMPONENT (5-wire) Cable

S-Video (it sucks)

Composite (3 wire , and it sucks too!)

RF antenna

This setup delivers the BEST PICTURE and sends ALL the Audio to your Stereo so you can decide to use it or not....

Now if you have a Surround amp, that get's wired differently....

And if I knew the Brand/Model of the TV and the amp, then I could be more concise about the connections....same applies with your video services....
