This seem like a simple question, but i just cant figure it out. I have a Sony STR-DE935. My old receiver had inputs where you held down a little lever and just stuck the wires in. On my new receiver, the Sony, the front speakers have this twisty k**b thing seen in the middle of this picture. I just don't know how to hook up my wires to those k***s. Do i need different cables?

  1. The "twisty k**b" should have either a little hole that you can thread through OR you should be able to unscrew it and wrap the wire around it to make a connection.

  2. Very simple answer: either use banana plugs on your speaker wires and just plug them into the speaker jacks.

Or just unscrew the the k***s (Counterclockwise), if you look real close you will see a small hole , just insert your speaker wire in that hole, and then tighten the k**b until it tightens and holds the wire. Do this for all your speakers, and you should have no problems.

  3. Those speaker jacks are called "5 way binding posts".

As said - un-s***w the cap to expose the side hole. Insert wire and tighten.

IMPORTANT: Leave no strands of copper sticking out that will cause a short when you do this.

I find hard-wiring into those side holes hard to do.  So I use Banana Plugs.

Go to Radio Shack and buy 1 pair of 278-308 dual banana plugs. Bring them home and see if they fit the spacing on the end of your binding posts.

If not, return the duals and get a package of singles: 278-310. You un-s***w the singles, shove wire up the barrel and fold down over the lip. s***w on the banana part and you have a nice, neat looking banana on the end of your wires.

  4. Red is positive and black is Negative like normal and after you unscrew the k***s there should be a little whole that appears on top and below the k**b after you get it unscrewed, Just take the wire and put it in the whole (just like you would a normal connection) and s***w it back and it should work fine.

  5. strip wire about 1/2 inch

    loosen those k***s you mention

behind the k**b (through the shaft)there is a hole going through

insert wire into hole (stripped wire only)

    tighten

Or get banana plugs but thats another story....see ya
