How do i import video from a camera to my mac?

i just got a macbook for editing movies and pictures and i dont know how to get the videos off my Sony HDV camera(it takes a mini tape not DVD)

i have a USB cord for it, but i need anything tell me but, please help!

  1. just connect it to your usb cord and plug the other kind into your computer.


  2. You'll need a FireWire cable (not the port though--all MacBook shave that).  You can buy a cable through any Apple Store or basically any other electronics store.

    If you like editing movies, you probably should have gone for the MacBook Pro.

  3. All these other answers have you covered. Get a 4 to 6 pin firewire cable. This is how all mini dv cameras plug into a mac as far as I know.

  4. Use iLink (firewire) to connect the camcorder to the Mac and then capture with iMovie.

  5. 4 pin to 6 pin firewire lead is needed. plug the small 4 pin into cam and large 6 pin into mac.

    launch imovie and click import.
