  2. Both carrots and beets are excellent for the liver. The reason carrots are supposed to help with vision is that they are good for the liver, and the liver is directly connected to the eyes. Beets serve as a detoxifier for the liver; I take a fresh beet and grate it, mix it with some olive oil and either lemon juice or preferably umeboshi plum paste, and eat a couple of tablespoons every day to detox my liver; you do need to start out with less, then build up, or you could suffer from extreme detox symptoms (like headaches). The Milk Thistle that you tried may have been of inferior quality; tests done on supplements have shown many to have very little of the listed active ingredient or even the herb itself. Dandelion root is also very good for the liver, but you wouldn't necessarily use the common dandelion found on lawns-it needs to be Taraxacum Officianalis, which I grow easily from seed. The greens from it are also a good diuretic. Good idea to want to care for your liver!
