  1. You may not like the sound of this, but get in the weight room and start doing squats. You need to train strength and explosiveness for an increase in jumping ability. I'm guessing your coach has you do some plyometric drills in practice; these along with all the jumping in regular play will improve your explosiveness, which will bring solid gains if you are also increasing your strength in the weight room. There's good info on this here http://verticalleaptraining.blogspot.com

  2. along with excercise make sure you have a good approach, take a huge left step a small right step and a small left step swing your arms back then swing them forward then jump swing! well its easy for me to say since im still on a middle skool sized net and 5 feet 9 inches lol

  3. Try using leg weights, then take them off during a real game.

  4. just do any type of plyometric exercises

  5. Flubber

  6. In high school we would do standing & running wall touches to get our verticle jumps improving ........ do like 100 with each arm on a wall & jump as high as possible until your thighes start to burn.... OMG you'll feel it & after a few weeks you will get a few inches on your jump.  Actually because your center blocker you should be doing these with both hands up facing the wall..... your butt will feel like it wants to fall off!!!

If you set a lot don't forget to stretch the muscles in your hands...... I know it sounds funny, but I pulled my thumb 7 years ago & it still hasn't healed right & re-injures easily.

Oh yeah man ... i want to go spank some balls right now!!!

    Good luck Gabby

  7. I am quite short for playing volleyball (5'1") but I can jump really high...higher than girls much taller than me on my team. These are a few of the things I do to get higher:

To help me with my jump, I always get as low as I can and swing my arms back. When I'm ready to jump, I swing my arms forward to get momentum going to jump high. Bring both hands up and shrug your shoulders so that your arms are touching your ears.

To increase the height of your jump, try doing wall jumps; stand facing a wall about 6-12 inches away from it and jump like your blocking. Push your arms and feet out until they touch the walls. Keep doing this, each time trying to jump a little higher. To work on hitting, I do my approach everywhere. Just do your approach and jump as high as you can to touch a ceiling, top of a door, etc. Find something that is just out of your reach when you jump, and keep practicing until you can reach it.

If you have a bench, chair, or bleachers, stand in front of them and just jump from the floor onto the bench/chair/bottom bleacher. Do this about 50 times.

Stand on the floor and swing your arms back and bend your knees. Swing your arms forward and jump, trying to tuck your knees to your chest. Keep doing this for a while.

There are plenty of things to do to increase the height of your jump...just jump as high as you can whenever you can and you will start to notice a difference.

  8. You can go to a special trainer who can help you're jumping, which is what I do. If you don't have time or can't afford a trainer you can practice this at home.

Go to the bottom of your staircase and jump up and down your bottom step about thirty-fifty times. Do this everyday. When you feel you're ready, jump up and down two steps at a time. After that you can try three steps at a time. I used to do this when I didn't have a trainer and got to five steps at a time. It really helped increase my leg muscle and I jumped way higher. I am short too, but I play front row because I can jump high.
