  1. I concur with everything that has already been said.

    However, I would add...

    Get a thesaurus.

When you are writing, try to never use the same word twice.

For example, don't say "A big house on a big hill with big windows and big chimneys."

Rather say, " A (large) house with (long) windows and (tall) chimneys, stood on a (high) hill,"

Farther, try different ways of saying things.

Instead of saying "The garden was surrounded by a broken down picket fence",

say something like "An old picket fence staggered drunkenly, around the garden"

It is all helps to enlarge your vocabulary.

P.S., use your spell checker.  English is one of the most awkward language to spell, with numerous pronunciations, for the same spelling, and numerous spellings for the same pronunciation.

  2. read!

  3. Read more books :) thats what my teachers always said to me :) x

  4. Try downloading this thing called White Smoke. My best friend is using it to help her with English/grammar.

  5. READ BOOKS

  6. Crossword puzzles are great for vocabulary and spelling.  Reading higher level books will also give you a boost (ever tried Jane Eyre or Emma??)  You may also want to check out a word of the day e-mail list.  Either way, you have to practice, but keeping your mind flexible helps you in so many ways.

  7. it is simpl

    > you need to read anything like newspapers, magazines, books etc.

    > you should give online vocabulary tests.

    > and use dictionaries they are very helpful.

i will give you some websites for tests

  8. Read novels instead. When you come across a word you don't know or find difficult to spell, write it out on a piece of paper in big letters and place it where you can't miss it. After a few days you should be able to spell it. Don't write out more than 4 words at a time though.  Another way is to write something two or three times a week; anything, a letter will do. Check it against a dictionary and when you find a word you have spelt wrong use the method described above; write it on a piece of paper & place it where it wont be missed.
