How do i increase my stamina while running?

i need a lot of stamina to race a 1000m dash in my school. please suggest a few exercises & tips for increasing my stamina.

  1. The only way to increase your stamina is to train! a great way to improve stamina and muscle endurance in hill training (ie running on hills). Also vary the intensity of your running while training, start off jogging, then running and then sprining. Its hard but will help improve you stamina and muscle endurance. By havin good muscle endurance, you will be able to out 'kick' your opponents in tha final stages of the race. Also look up fartlek training, its more complex but is great!

  2. Definitely some Fartlek work or some "pick-ups" while doing your normal runs... Start with 30 seconds and between now and a few weeks, build up to 3 minutes. Recover and do it again. 10 of those should be a good place to start. Do this twice a week and you'll be on your way.

    Also plan on running everyday. Recovery is key. Thats where you actually get faster.
