  1. I have never heard of anyone actually doing that.  If your float bags are properly set in place you should actually get very little water in your boat.  If water accumulation is a problem you should probably check the float bags' arrangement and inflation first.  

    If you are not using float-bags and are on mild whitewater, I would simply pull into shore and dump the boat as needed.  And I'd do the same if I got enough water in the boat even with float bags.

    You could probably jerry-rig the pump onto a thwart at the side of the boat so that it doesn't interfere with paddling but is close enough to be useful.

    The only people I know that use bilge pumps are long-distance ocean and lake kayakers who have enclosed decks and dumping the water is not practical when they are far from shore.
