Question:

How do i introduce new kittens to my existing kitten?

We recently lost our 14 week old male kitten which has left his sister very lonely and pining for him. I have reserved two male kittens who are the same age and breed as her and want to pick them up as soon as possible really.

Do you think this is the right thing to do and are they likely to all get on? Also, what is the best way to introduce kittens together?

Thank you

  1. there is nothing wrong with getting a new kitten and if they get on they will keep each other company. the same thing happened to me and when i got the new one home the old one hissed and really didnt like it for about 4 days. When you get it home just open the box and let it hop out on its own then when the old cat starts hissing dont get involved or be tempted to shooo it away just let them sort it out on there own if you get involved it will take longer . just keep an eye on them to make sure they dont fight or get out of hand. after a little while they will either love each other or just stay out of each others way. at this very moment i have 3 cats from different litters and they are in a big fluffy huddle asleep at my feet

  2. How awful, very sorry for your loss.

I should think that as they are so young, they will probably be fine.

You should still introduce them slowly, and maybe try switching the bedding between them all beforehand to get them used to it but I think to be honest that they will be ok.

  3. It is a great idea to get another kitten to keep your other one company. Your kitten that you already have may hiss at first, but that will only be because he knows that its not the one you used to have. She or he will get used to the new one and create a bond in no time. All you have to do is put the kitten at least 4 feet away from the one you already have, and they will slowly approach each other. Give them time and they'll become the best of friends.

    Good Luck!
