I think, all Yahoo! groups are members only.  Like this group, on their home page, you just have to click the "join the group" box.  Fill in the info and wait to be approved.  Here is the link to the main Yahoo! groups site.  http://groups.yahoo.com/  In the upper right hand corner it has a clickable "Help" link if you have any problems.

not all groups are members only- some have the archives open and 'anyone' can post, meaning non members.

look for groups in the Yahoo directory, click on one that looks interesting and top right blue will say Join This Group- complete the next page and then click Join.
