  1. you can join (ISI) online for $13 a year.

    anyone can join

here is a paragraph from the website

"ISI's learn-to-skate program is a fun recreational ice skating program for all ages and abilities. You'll learn basic and advanced skating skills and earn colorful badges for each completed level. Want to perform in a show or competition? ISI hosts and endorses competitions and shows in member ice arenas across the country. ISI promotes these events in Recreational Ice Skating magazine, which you receive FREE as a member. "

  2. don't join isi, it's a waste of time. go straight to usfs. you have to pay money to take tests (moves in the field and freestyle).

  3. Most ice rinks offer both isi and usfsa memberships but you can go to the websites. isi is more beginner friendly. most skaters i know start off with isi and switch over to usfsa as they get to higher levels.

isi is 13 dollars per year and you get:

    Personalized membership card.

Recreational Ice Skating - quarterly magazine featuring recreational ice skaters, programs, events and tips.

    Test registration and patches

Opportunities to perform locally and nationally.

Access to skating manuals and brochures.

    Excess Accident Insurance

    the link is:  http://www.skateisi.com/site/sub.cfm?con...

usfsa is 85 dollars a year and the link is: http://www.usfigureskating.org/About.asp...

the websites give the best info so i would check them
