  1. wrapping some very thick blankets around it will help keep it from losing temp but if it is a blackout for a long period of time not alot you can do. try and keep the room temp warm as you can which also helps keep the aquarium temp at a constant level. dont forget to stir the water up now and then for oxygen and invest in a cheap battery powered air pump and a air stone very handy in blackouts.

  2. maybe you can use heating pads or place warm cloth over the tank

  3. First take about 8/10th of the water currently in the fish tank out. Then you should quickly get some WARM water not hot and wait about 10-15minutes, then slowly pour it in. Yiu wouldn't need to put in any of those water medicines for the fish, because you waited 10-15 minutes.

  4. Remove some of the water and put warm water not hot in plastic soda bottles this should help.  Otherwise wrap in a sleeping blanket sounds odd but I was told works for a while.

  5. throw some blankets over the tank to minimise heat loss

  6. if the black out isnt now, go to a computer shop or even ebay and look for a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supplie) you can get a small one for about £50 its just like a big extension lead but when you have a power cut it switch's from main power to the batteries it it can supple a computer for about 30mins which is draining about 400 watts and more a hour but a fish tanks doesnt even use 100watts including the filter, heater and air pump this way you know your fish tank will be protected for atleast 2hrs

  7. If it is a short blackout they will be fine, if it is longer I think people put plastic bottles of warm water in their tank, assuming you have some way of making warm water of course.
