How do i keep my dog from shedding?

Question

So i have a short haired Chihuahua and he sheds all the time, hes only 3 years old and. What should i do or use to keep him from shedding or to minimize the shedding?

brush it every day with a rubber brush you can but one at walmart for a dollar also try switching his food to a sensitive skin formula

You won't be able to stop this dog from shedding because he is the shedding kind! If he is a house dog and sounds like he is! Limit him to one piece of furniture and cover it!

The next time looking for a dog you may consider these types of dogs they don't shed!

Maltese, Lhasa Apso, I own these two so I know! There are a few more types of dogs that also don't shed but you can go to AKC and find out! Hope this information is helpful to you!

I would invest in a lint-roller and brush him more often.  You cannot stop a dog from shedding, they do have different shampoos that are supposed to lessen their shedding which is unnatural and usually do not work well.  There are several different combs, etc. you can use to brush excess fur off and prevent them from getting onto your clothes, etc.

you cant........he is going to shed.....thats not even that bad i have a 170+lbs newfoundland and he sheds probably 100X your dog

frequent brushing will improve the skin quality so will help

I bought a furminator for use on my german shepherd/malamute mix and it seems to help keep the shedding down.  It may work even better on a single coated dog.  Just a thought.

You can't keep a dog from shedding.  Spend more time grooming him, you will find more hair in the brush instead of around your house, and it will strengthen the bond between the two of you.

You can't keep a dog from shedding but they do have some shampoos and tools like the furminator to help. A good daily brushing works wonders too.

There is no real solution to shedding, you can try de-shedding shampoos and brushing him often.

i have a dog who sheds pretty bad as well. if you feed your dog Dinovite dog food it is supposed to reduce the hair shedding within a week. you can brush your dog and to help a little bit. there is also FURminator Waterless deShedding Shampoo & Conditioner you can also use to help with all the hair loss.

I've had luck with one of those shed ender combs... its amazing how much hair they get out.  I have a pomeranian and if I brush him and use the comb every day(ok, most days) it really does keep it all under control.

Well, you cannot prevent him from shedding but you can cut down on it by bathing and brushing him.

Maybe you would even consider shaving him (if he has long enough hair)

I have a short hair chi and we shave her when she's shedding/summer time.

I have a dog that also sheds a lot. I hered from a family friend that if you mix sunflower oil into the dog's food, it would minimize shedding. I never tried this, but if your desperate, it might help.

You can't. Dogs shed....it is just part of who they are

You can brush him more frequently and there are shampoos that claim to reduce shedding (though I highly doubt it)
