I always naturally cup my wrist on the backswing. Is my grip messed up or something? I have heard that if you have a good grip you can basically forget about what the hands are doing in the swing. Does this statement include the left wrist also; i mean if you grip is good you can forget about what your wrists are doing?

  1. You are right a proper grip will help.  Also think about at address having your elbows pointing toward your hip bones.  Get your arms (elbows) as close as possible at address and keep them as close as possible throughout the swing.  Good grip and arm position will keep you from cupping left wrist.

  2. The golf swing has MANY complicated parts to it.

A good grip is important, but it DOESN'T mean you can forget about your wrists.

Your left wrist should NOT be flat.  It should be bent slightly UPWARD.

If you hold your hand out to shake hands with someone, your wrist will be bent slightly.  That's about the same amount of bend you want in your wrist to swing properly.

  3. Ordinarily you wrists will break at the top of the swing due to the club weight and the force exerted on the arms and wrists during the backswing. The wrists are kept in that position on the downswing and released just prior to the moment of impact. This is unloading the wrists which imparts  the power through the ball which results in distance.
