My neighbor has a male cat that comes into our yard all the time. So my male cat ends up fighting him and their last fight was kinda bad. My cat had his lower lip bit and almost torn off. We put him in the garage at night and that seems to help but sometimes we cant find him and he ends up getting into horriable fights.

  1. I also agree not to neuter. I mean unless the other one is neutered too. Because if you neuter your cat, and the other one isn't, your cat will just get bullied, and without the testosterone he will be significantly weaker, therefore he's gonna get mauled to death rather than just his lower lip being torn off.

  2. Get him fixed. Removing the reproductive system stops their need to fight.

  3. I aree with Mick W; neutering does not stop cats fighting,or 'spraying' for that matter.

The only solution is,to keep him away from the other cat.

we have a new male cat in our road who fights with anything that moves, male or female cats, and he is neutered. When he's not fighting he is a very lovable cat.Oh! just thought, another solution is to get a spray gun bottle and fill it with water and spray on the fighting cats. This stops them ,guaranteed!

  4. my 2 cats, 7 + 6 both neutered as soon as they were old enough, fight each other and every cat in the neighbourhood. to get them "done" can help, but if their fighters, nothing you can do other than keeping them in, which in my opinion is a bit nasty. like them locking me in my garage lol

  5. Talk to your neighbour on the need to curtail his/her cat, if no headway, 'shell' the cat to smithereens cos it seems with an almost torn of lip your cat is more at a disadvantage.Don't touch or do anything to your cat cos it fights in its territory which is normal,it would have been different if it fought in your neighbours territory.Your cat is normal.

  6. I hope you won't give into any of those manipulative, cruelly selfish 'humane' suggestions to neuter the animal.

Your cat does what is in his nature, he's a CAT not a human. If he needs to fight, he will. You trying to stop him is like handing him bound to his rival.

Neutering the poor animal denies him what he is, it will NOT stop the aggressiveness, it might actually make it worse. Animals have feelings too you know and respond to abuse same as humans do. Neutering is abuse. Besides, if you take that edge of him, the other male cat might even rape him. It does happen to neutered males.

If you *really* must do something, try liberally scattering pepper in your garden, that may keep the other tom cat off. Or, like someone already suggested (roger S), take pot shots at the other cat. Or douse it with water.

Or, take your cat to a cattery, where he might get himself a girlfriend and that will relieve his sexual tension.

Just don't treat him as a toy or a creature that fails to be human!

Jeez, some cat owners should be put in cages themselves.

  7. You cat is fighting for territory and is stresses out, if a cat does not have a space were they can call there own and mark and protect they can get stressed out, It seems like your cat has to constantly be on guard and fight for his territory. He is going to keep doing this as long as the other cat is aggrieve,.

this is not only going to be your issue because if your neighbor cats is coming into your yard or the other way around it is because they know each other are there and want what the other one has, its kid syndrome lol

    I want it

You can nurture your cat but it is not going to change the fact that the other cat is still aggressive, most of the time when you neuter a male cat it is to stop them from marking it may calm them down but there is no proof that it is certain this happens. It may make your cat less territorial but I don't think it will the cause and effect is already in play.

The best thing that I can think of if you have to give your cat its own place, its own territory so that it can be a man mark what it wants to mark and not have to feel over wheelmend and always protect it.

You really need to talk to you neighbors as well because this is part of there problem too,

Good luck and if you do keep your kitty inside that is usually best, you wont have to worry about any problems and you can get a big kitty house were he can jump on and scratch and hide in..If  scratching is a problem but kitty cat nip on a post were he can scratch  and that should attract him to it.

I know its hard with cats cause they can jump but if you can at all make it harder for there cat to get in your yard try to find a way,

  8. Cutting a cats balls off does not stop them fighting! keep a record of local scraps to justify this, however it brings a nice revenue to the local vets, there are items that cats hate that will stop the transgression into other territories, get away from folk law and rely on factual reality, (this means using your brain) to resolve the problem.

  9. Hi just wondering if you had your cat neutered yet? If he not, that is why, i have 2 male cats and they where excatctly the same (fighting) until i had them neutered. That calm them a lot and also keep them from wondering.  Hope i was of some help.

  10. There is no proper way from preventing a male cat from fighting. Cats are very territorial animals and will always put that first. Another reason is that male cats will happily fight other male cats for the sake of a female cat, the best way to deal with this is to get him neutered, which will stop him thinking about female cats in a certain way and will also stop some fights with other males heading for that same female cat.

  11. Neuter him I think that stops cats fighting

  12. I got my cat neutered and he still fights at 17 years of age! It doesn't always work.Thankfully it's not very often, I think he as seen off most of the cats from his garden. I would keep him indoors plenty of other people do.

  13. Most females here are insisting that the cat has his equipment chopped off. I think this makes the animal lose their vitality and zest for life. Animals when neutered tend to become placid and put on weight.

  14. Keep him inside.  If that isn't possible, accept that they are going to fight.  The only way they won't fight is if they can't get to each other, and if they are both outside there's no way to prevent it.

It may get to a point that they will be used to each other and cool it, but it sounds like the relationship is going the other way.  But the fact of the matter is, outdoor cats are fighting cats, and he is probably nervous and upset everytime it happens.

  15. Neuter him if he isnt neutered confine him thats about it...

  16. I have a Russian Blue (that breed is known for fighting).  We couldn't keep him at home and he was always coming home beat up.  He ended up getting really sick from one of his fights (he contracted feline auto-immune virus).  We got him neutered and brought him inside to live.  Now he's fat, healthy and never goes outside.  His quality of life is 100% better and we're happier because we have a healthy cat who loves us.

  17. Hi, why dont you try neutering him? Usually male fight over terratory but if you take away his man hood it should help

  18. Cats are territorial animals and this is often the main reason why they fight.  But, there are exceptions as my cats (5 of them do not fight)

Male cats are normally more susceptible to fight especially if there is a feline in heat.

    1. If you are not going to breed your cat - take it to the vet and have him neutered. Neutered pets are normally home bodies & are less ferocious.

    2. You are actually doing something that works, keeping the cat confined to a certain place - where it can not leave or get away.

    3. Talk to your neighbor, since you share the same problem - a win-win solution might be possible.

Lastly,  sorry to hear about your cat getting hurt. I hope your cat's lower lip is getting better. Must be difficult for him to eat.

  19. Has your cat been neutered? Has the other cat been neutered. Your cat is only protecting his territory. Obviously he doesn't like the strange cat, you will have to get hold of some authorities to get rid of the enemy!!

  20. I also have a male cat and we had him 'taken care of' when we first had him, and he doesn't bother about fighting anymore unless another cat picks on him first. So if I were you I would talk to your neighbour and have all cats done because if one is done and one isn't the problem is never going to be solved.

When your cat goes missing for a few days it means he has been hurt and wants to stay somewhere he feels safe and comfy until he feels well enough to come home. I had the same problem a few months ago and this is what the vets told me when he eventually came home extremely poorley.

Another word of advice is to get your cats insured, trust me, it will be easier in the long run, it has recently cost us £500 to get our cat sorted out at the vets. Its best just to have it as a back up rather than having to pay it all out at once.

    Hope this helps   :)

  21. i ve got 2 males i got them both nutered, and no more fighting with the other cats in the street

  22. Have your cat neutered and keep him inside at night. Try to encourage your neighbour to have their cat neutered also.

Aside from obvious injuries, there are many fatal diseases that cats can contract from bites and scratches including Feline Leucaemia and Feline Aids.

With pet ownership comes responsibility! Your pet is dependant on you and deserves nothing less.
