  1. put a water bottle in the freezer and  wait till it freezes then put it in the cage

  2. I'm very sorry for your loss. Here are some ideas:

    - Fill a water bottle with cold water and freeze it, then place it in the cage.

    - Buy a slab of marble to put in the cage.

    -  Wet a towel and put it over part of the cage (make sure it's a towel you don't want back), then turn a fan on but don't let the fan blow directly on the cage.

    - Provide plenty of cold water in a water bottle.

    - Fill a pan or something with a small amount of cold water and put ice cubes in it. Rats release heat through their tails and they might dip their tails or play in it to keep cool.

    - Fill a spray bottle with cool water and mist them once in a while, especially their tails.

    - And lastly get her a new same s*x friend. It won't keep her cooler but it will make her happier :).

  3. They have fans that will clamp onto the metal cage (only like 20-50 dollars, very cheap), that should help.

  4. This is what I did during the really hot months.

Place an almost full bottle of water in the freezer overnight, then the next day just put it in the cage with them, they will lay against it, and it will help to lower the temp a few degrees in the cage.

Also, even better, and more fun for the rats. Frozen peas. Yep.

Take a sturdy bowl that is not bigger at the top than the bottom.. and fill it about 1/4 way with water.. add frozen peas to water.

Place bowl into cage, watch rats go pea diving and cool off at the same time!

  5. Rodents are really hard to keep satisfied, not too hot not too cold. What i do for my bird is i keep a window fan on, and take off her towel, but i put it back on during the night time, not all the way.. just across the top..and one side.

squirt her with water, and take her out of the cage and give her mini baths.. be careful and watch closely

  6. Keep his water cool. freeze a pop can and put it in his cage to keep the cage cold. Bathe your rat once a day in cool water. Fill a spray can with water and gently spray cool water on him every 10-15 minutes. Drape a wet towel over part of their cage and provide a cooling fan or open window with a breeze. Put their favorite hide-out, nest box, etc in the freezer to cool it down. And you can put the rats cage in your car if your car has AC for a few hours a day.

    I hope this helps!!!!!!

  8. I love all of darksong's answers.  Great suggestions!

For my rats I fill a ziplock bag with ice and put it in their cage.  That way when the ice melts, it's contained and doesn't drip all over the bedding.

Bowls of water with frozen veggies in it is a nice idea too, but rats are smart enough not to drown in a bowl.  They're actually good swimmers.

    Sorry about your other rat.

  9. turn a fan on if you have one

make sure you give lots of water to drink

  10. Get on of those big plastic icepacks that you put in the freezer. After its frozen, put it in part of the cage where the rat can get to it (and away from it) when needed. You will find them laying on it frequently. My ferrets do also. Refreeze if needed then put back in the cage. Dont leave it in overnight because of the risk of chewing it up while you're sleeping since they do most of their play at night.

  11. Ice pack changed daily, or ice cubes in the water.

  12. you can put them in the basement of you can put them near a open window or if you have a fan you can place it near a fan

  13. :) a lot of cool water and a fan...

  14. i read a fun thing u can do with them on the internet. U fill a shalow bowl with cool water and then add frozen veggies like peas or corn and they enjoy going threw the water and fishing for the food and it will help cool her off. BUT make sure u watch her. Do not just put the bowl of water in the cage she could drown. hope this helps.

  15. you can have a cooling fan for your rats, just to give a slight breeze. it shouldn't be any stronger than that otherwise they may get too cold.

you can also take them to go 'pea fishing'. get some frozen peas and drop it in a tub of shallow water. some rats are scared of water so this may take some coaxing. the water should be shallow enough for them to stand. once they get used to it, they will go 'fishing' for the peas.

you can also give them a terracotta flower pot. this keeps them cool if they sleep in there.

bean bags also work. get an old sock and fill it up with rice and leave it in the fridge overnight.

an alternative is to get an old tile and just place it in their cage. make sure it is clean though.

and lastly, in there water bottle you can keep a couple of ice cubes in there to make sure the water stays cool.

  16. buy one or buy a pool and she can get in it and drink it we have a big pool but we had a party and the little kids swam in it so we never took it down then the next day i looked outside and the dogs were siting in it if that don't work then let her stay at a family members house till it cools down and I'm sorry about the other dog

                                good luck:)

  17. use a fan if u hav 1......

  18. tie an ice-cube to his back

  19. Alot of rodents keep their body temperature normal by using their ears, but you could turn a fan on. Make sure it's a circular fan! Box/Square shaped fans have a tendency to overheat easier and that could cause a fire. You may also want to put a old tee shirt in the cage so if she gets too cold she can snuggle up and sleep.

  20. keep it wet cuz its a rodent with fur

  21. ahhh!!!!!

ok i have found something just for you!!!!!

get ice cubes and put them in a dish and maybe when your freezing them put a little treat in the middle mine absoloutly love this keeps them out of trouble too!

  22. MY GERBIL GETS HOT IN THE SUMMER TOO- THIS IS WHAT I DO.

i put some toilet roll on top of the cage, preferable where there are holes at the top. wet the toilet rool, and when the water evaporates, it takes the heat with it. also, when it's dry, you can put the toilet roll in the cage. its all crispy, and my gerbils love it.

  23. PUT iT iN THE FREEzER 0R iF yU KANT TAKE KARE 0F iT THEN GiVE iT T0 S0ME0NE THAT HAS A.C. 0R GET A LiTTLE FAN && PUT iT 0N THE CAGE
