How do i keep my thin necklace from tangling?

I have a white gold necklace that is really thin, like you can easily rip it. and when i just put it in a box the chain tangles into knots.. is there any way to put it so it doesn't tangle.. besides hanging it?

You could place it carefully beside your bedstand.

well when it does get tangled use baking soda and water so u dont break it
