  1. Milky Spore!  It's organic and really easy to use, BUT it takes a while before it works.  The best part is, once it does begin working and doing what Milky Spore does, it controls the Beetles for years without any other applications.

  2. You could spray your young trees. I heard the garden expert on our local TV station say, "do not put up a beetle trap", they only draw the bugs in. If there are not too many, you can pick them off and stomp the c**p out of them.  If the trees are really small yet, you can buy nylon netting at the fabric store really cheap, and wrap the trees in the netting until the beetles die off. Save the netting, it will last for several years.

  3. Don’t use traps they just attract more beetles. If you decide to use them make sure you locate them away from any of your favorite trees or plants. The netting may work, but they are already on your trees.

I have found that you just tap the branch that they are on they just fall to the ground. They don’t fly well.

I use hot soapy water in a bucket just knock them off. The problem is I had thousands of them on our property. I had to be selective, they do lots of damage but all my plants and trees are ok this year.

Here is more information; the more you know the better choices you can make.

    Good luck,

  4. ortho bug b gone max,  I have used it and had success killing Japanese beetles, just apply it every few weeks and the beetles will be gone.

  5. Last year was the first year I had these horrible little beetles.  They love a lot of flowers, not just fruit trees.  I have several different  flowers that they really love.  I agree with the others - do NOT use the bags.  Tell your neighbors how great they work and let THEM put them up and they will get most of the little buggers.

I haven't seen any yet this summer, but I keep checking every day.  If and when they come I will either use a powder or spray made by Ortho.  Or, the sudsy water is effective too if you don't like the idea of using pesticides.
