How do i kill plant/weeds in my lake i think its micro sword and its not spose 2 be in lakes?

bout 5 yrs ago my husband and my brother put 6x6inch plant which came from my brothers freshwater aquarium and by googleing pictures i think it may be a progressed giant form of microsword and since then it has now umm well taken over our entire lake and this lake isnt just ours its a strip pit and has bout 6 other neighboors w/ docks on it, there is fish and other wildlife in and around the lake and it is also our water source...we didnt kno planting that would cause i mass takeover we figured it would give fish places to hide since it was so small of a plant at the time im not sure that its micro sword but it looks alot like it our neighboors do not kno that we put this here and if they did they'd kill us it is starting to "shed" and now all along the banks and the docks dead algea covered leaves are collecting, were dont kno how to kill it and we need to kno how its ok if we cant drink that water for a limited amount of time but we do not want to kill the wild life how do we kill this stuff..i mentioned bringing up treating the lake at the next lake meeting.
