  1. Ok, the guppies are easy - the males are the more colorful fancy ones. Although you can find females with color, the females are usually all grey around the stomach area. For those females who do have color, they usually have a rounder belly.

Swordtails are easy too, the males have the long swordtail and females do not. This is true for all types of swordtails.

For the neons, the females are more round than the males as shown here:

The black mollies - Male molly displays gonopodium and females generally larger. Here the female is in front and the male is in the back. You can tell by the fins under the belly - females are fanned and males usually stay straight as sown in pic.

Sexing Cherry barbs are not difficult since the male feature a vivid, cherry-red colouration. (It is naturally from this colouration that the common name Cherry barb has been derived.) Female Cherry barbs are not as vividly coloured and will usually display a rather dull orange shade. Both males and females display a dark horizontal stripe along their body, but the stripe will be much more noticeable on the female fish since she is paler. You can also notice a difference in body shape between the two sexes. Males are generally more slender while the females tend to have fuller bodies. The male Cherry barb is also larger than the female.

You can find more info by just doing searches on the net, or go to your local pet store and ask someone to showw you the difference if they can.

    Have fun =)

  2. Well, it's different for different fish.  With neon tetras, you go by the fish's profile.  Male fish are slimmer and more torpedo shaped, while the female fish are fatter.  It hardly matters with them because they are very difficult to breed.

Livebearers are about the easiest to s*x.  Which is good, because it's more important to know if your livebearers are male or female as they are going to be having lots of babies!  Also, you should get 2 females for every male livebearer so that the males don't harass the females to death wanting to mate.  "Livebearers" includes mollies, guppies, swordtails, platies & endlers.  All the guppy females will have a gravid spot, which is a dark spot just below and behind the curve of their belly, above the anal fin.  Males will have a rod-shaped anal fin called a "gonopodium" while females have a fan-shaped anal fin.  Here's a picture of livebearers:

With other fish it's sometimes the case that the male will have brighter colors or fancier finnage.  With some fish it's nearly impossible to tell, unless you examine their vents, like with goldfish.
