I like playing from sheet music on the piano but there are some parts which I have to work at before I can play out the tune. Sometimes I play it several times and I have a section memorized but then I stop at the next section because the music looks rather difficult. How do I know if a piece is too hard for me? Is there a time rule such as if I can play it out within 20 minutes then it's not too hard for me?

  1. When it is too difficult for you. If you are having a great lot of

trouble, leave it and go on to another piece. After you have learned more from other pieces you have mastered then go back and try it again.

  2. there's no time rule. you just have to keep practising till you perfect/master it. try playing with separate hands first, maybe that'll help. keep going! :)

  3. i do suggest knowing the tune first.

20 minutes is too fast to be able to correctly play a song. (if its long)

if you can, then your either very good, or messing it up.

there is never a time rule. some people take longer then others to correctly play a song.

dont give up on it, you'll feel bad afterward. just try and finish it

    good luck

  4. You have to keep working at your piano piece. Sometimes it is better to just go through the whole thing and don't stop if you get notes wrong. Practice the hard parts 3 times a day for about 5-10 minutes. If you still don't get it after a couple weeks. Consider some of the pieces you know really well. How do they compare? This really helped me set guidelines for my playing.
