  3. if you feel you have to keep asking this question over and over...if you feel that you become obsessed with things, and counting, checking, etc...

  4. well its often hard to tell, as some sufferers have it quite mildly or regard it as 'normal' behavior; if you spend hours each day cleaning your home and worrying that visitors may find it quite dirty even after your hard work (ie, no matter how much you clean it it will never be good enough) then that is ocd, although people dont often regard it as that.

What people dont realise is that everyone has ocd to some extent, as it tends to stem from past experiences or personal phobias. I once watched a doctumentry about a father who went to the park one day with his young daughter only to find, when he arrived home, that the wrong child was sittting in his pram. This resulted in a need for him to constantly know the where abouts of his daughter, and his way of going about this was to leave work at different times of the day and call in at his daughters nursery to make sure she was still there. As this interfered with his daily life, it is classed as ocd.

I myself, often have to make sure that my bedroom window is closed at night (even in the summer) as personal experiences have left me constantly feeling unsafe. I often get out of bed to make sure the window is closed, and often have to tap it several times for fear that my eyes are defying me and the glass may have fallen out of its frame. (this procedure tends to be repeated on many occasions each night) This is also classed as ocd as it is to do with irrational fears.

In conclusion, ocd can be anything that involves obsessive, compulsive behavior, ie, rituals that have to be carried out, repeadly and regualry to enable the person to feel secure and safe, without which they would feel they were putting their life in danger.
