the guy at costco installed a new set of tires to replace the old ones. all four are manufactured by Goodyear, a name i know from memory (blimp?), and he made me buy the most expensive ones they had. this cost is offset by the deal he gave me (warranty, free repair, rotation, alignment). the thing is, being the skeptical personality that i am, the new tires dont have the letter p in front of the name by the looks of it, which it used to or is supposed to have. the p designates "passenger" i think, but does it make a difference to have this letter within the name if any? Old tires: P225/60R16 vs. New Tires: 225/60R16.

  1. Costco is big on making sure that the tires fit the cars. They will only put tire sizes that came on the car originally. The P is no big factor.

  2. these are the kind of things you need to find out before you have them put on. most tire places will not put the wrong tire on in any case.

  3. its fine they are the same  and yes p does mean passenger and LT means light truck passenger just means it has a softer sidewall with less steel belts smoother ride and LT has thicker harder sidewalls to take more weight and abuse

  4. Justin A is correct. The 'P' Just means passenger tire. If a P is left off a tire it's usually safe to assume it's a passenger tire. All tires that I've come in contact with that have a ply rating of six or higher are considered LT tires.

Be sure that you read all the material you were given in regards to your warranty. I've never had any experience with Costco but there are ways for the big box companies to get around warranties if they can find fault with the user. Good luck!

  5. You will be fine and drive safe......
