  1. So long as it has the little notches on the actual carseat, then you can use the seatbelt.

My son's carseat came with a base. I had the base in my car, but when I went to work, I just took the carseat out and we used just the seatbelt in my mom's car. (She watched him while I worked and we didn't have a second base).

I have never seen a carseat with a base that didn't also have the ability to use just a carseat.

If you have an instruction manual for it, read in there or do a websearch for the brand and model you have and try to find it online.

  2. My car seat has a base too. I have strapped it into my car and we leave it there. Then we simply strap the actual car seat into any other car he rides in. That's what works for us. I like the base in my car especially because I don't have to buckle him into and unbuckle him out every time we get in and out.

  3. Target sells extra bases.. so you have a second base to leave in your second car.  Hand -me-down seats shouldn't be used if they are more than 5 years old, or have ever been in any sort of accident.

  4. I understand, I have the evenflo carseat, which I love btw. I needed an extra carseat, I didnt want to keep switching like I did, so I went onto craigs list and got 2 carseats for $16! I would suggest that, but you dont need the base, I just feel much better with it in. Just make sure you read the instructions on how to put it in, (usually u wrap the seat around and lock it in) and make sure it doesnt move too much. Although I would suggest either buying another base, or buying another carseat. I hope I helped
